Rice and Breads: Khichdi




Serves: 2
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup masoor or moong daal / lentil
  • ½ onion chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic freshly pounded
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2-3 green chillies sliced along the length
  • 1 teaspoon ghee
  • Frozen green peas (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • One pinch turmeric
Method:

  • In a deep pan, wash rice and daal.
  • Put the pan on the stove and add 500 gm boiled water.
  • Add onion, garlic, chillies, cumin seeds, salt, turmeric and green peas.
  • Stir and leave it to cook till both rice and daal are soft.
  • Mix ghee in thoroughly.
  • Serve hot.
